ABSTRACT

The Halal industry is expanding day by day as it has gone beyond the narrow scope in which it was confined, as a field specialized in Halal food issues, to include all business fields. Reports expected that this trade would continue to grow at rates of no less than 4.8% annually, to reach about $6.4 trillion in 2020. This chapter aims to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the Halal logistics and supply chains phenomenon, its spread and its effects on the material and spiritual life of Muslim customers in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, in addition to opening a new field of research for studies in the field of Halal logistics. This chapter relies on reviewing Halal supply chain concepts and practices in the previous literature of Halal to provide a better understanding of the phenomena. This chapter operationalized Halal supply chain practices as upstream and downstream practices and theoretical constructs of the Halal theory. It is also demonstrated the blind area of Halal practices. This chapter aims to build a solid background and open future research areas. Based on the reviewed literature, this chapter provides direction for future studies which should focus more on developing Halal supply chain practices besides investigating Halal theory.
