ABSTRACT

The chapter intends to ascertain various theories applied in the Halal logistics and supply chain research. This research project conducts a methodical analysis to evaluate Scopus database Halal logistics (HL) and Halal supply chain (HSC) academic literature from 2007 to 2020. First, the review shows the three main journals are Journal of Islamic Marketing, International Journal of Supply Chain Management, and British Food Journal. Second, the main research papers originate from Malaysia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia. The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia is the main Halal certification body recognized worldwide, and Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim country. Nowadays, HL and HSC studies are also emerging in other countries. Third, this chapter further concludes that Diffusion of Innovation (DOI), Resource-Based View (RBV), Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), Institutional Theory, Agency Theory and Adaptive Saturation Theory (AST) are the theories that have been applied in various aspects of research in HL and HSC. This chapter is an effort to analyse systematically the theories used in HL and HSC literature.
