ABSTRACT

The inability to track and trace the Halal product throughout the entire supply chain has increased the trust issues among customers, especially Muslim consumers. To take transportation as an example, the lack of visibility in tracking containers’ distribution flow, managing the returned containers, information on suppliers and whether there is allocation of space or segregation between Halal or non-Halal certified products, will increased the risk of Halal product integrity to be compromised. In order to abolish these inadequacies, a thorough traceability system in Halal logistics and supply chain need to be proposed. Traceability technology can help logistics and supply chain to have better visibility and efficiency. Traceability technology provides the ability to keep a book record, which makes it the perfect technology to facilitate consignment tracking, national and international contracts and payment dispensation along the logistics industry. The aim of this system is to place Halal controls that track and trace all activities during product handling and delivery. This will also provide total business visibility that will increase profit, reduce costs and human errors, while at the same time maintain the integrity of the Halal product from the point of origin to the point of consumption.
