ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on inequality in the hidden abode of production in Sweden and argues that the notion of class has been lacking from the intense discussions on changes in the employment structure. In this chapter, central claims from the literature, pointing either towards a polarisation or towards an upgrading of the employment structure, are confronted with data on perceived working condition. Using data from the European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS), the chapter shows that differences in working conditions maintain social boundaries between classes. However, some changes are emerging, indicating a partial decoupling between elevated social positions and privileged working conditions.
