ABSTRACT

This chapter presents results from a sociological investigation on class formation processes in the Portuguese construction industry. Inspired by Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological theory and method and using a scheme of social class analysis adapted from the work developed by the sociologists J.F. Almeida, A.F. Costa, and F.L. Machado, it analyses in topological terms microdata from the Portuguese Employment Survey on this branch of industry, which it combines with the study of social reproduction strategies arising from mixed methods research carried out among social agents active in this domain of economy.
