ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how to build teams using the triangular model of belong-connect-take action (BCTA). Team building needs to be intentional and a continuous process. The chapter describes three core principles for building teams. The BCTA triangular model provides a simple framework to link inclusion and team building, especially if SENCO expect their teams to be diverse, with a collective purpose to promote inclusion. Connection is about truly knowing the team, what makes them tick and what hinders their performance: a collective of personal bests. It requires everyone involved be authentic and accountable. The SENCOs have all just attended a SENCO forum on team building and each of them would like to share how they will intentionally build teams with the SEND7. There are three levels of communication considered in relation to the SENCO role, namely verbal, nonverbal and the written word.
