ABSTRACT
As citizens, the authors will be voting for the parties which they believe will best represent their views on the central issue. The Women's Coalition offered a shift from complaint to critique, articulating dissatisfaction with the political status quo in a new way. But it was papers on equity, inclusion and accommodation, and human rights, discussed and endorsed by members ahead of the election, that became the Coalition's three "core principles" and underpinned the NIWC's work over the following years. Among other issues, this paper called for a 'comprehensive independent review of the criminal justice system', including emergency legislation, the police, and the judiciary and asserted the 'basic human right to live free from violence', calling 'for an end to the use of violence for whatever purposes'.
