ABSTRACT

Like Dalit, feminist, minority movements, Bahujan movement has also made its presence very crucial in the critical discourse. Bahujan movement declared solidarity with the Dalit and the minority movements despite the specific differences. The backward caste literature has introduced different identities, tools, work, conflicts to the Telugu readers that were hitherto unknown. The book Ventaade Kalaalu from which this essay is taken is one of such books that have mirrored the philosophy of the toiling lives of the backward castes. Region also occupies a major place in this discourse as the regional variations also have contributed to the predicament that the backward caste people are subjected to. Telangana movement has majorly reflected the struggles of these castes as the hegemonic history of this region has targeted them to the core and also because they have actively participated in the Telangana people’s movements including the movement for a separate state. Juluru Gowrishankar writes with the consciousness of caste and region. He is one of the editors of the book from which the essay is taken. The essay, one of the most discussed essays by Juluru Gowrishankar, is a personal narrative that narrates his experiences from a childhood of hardship and alienation. It represents the transgression of limitations, genre, content, restrictions in writing by the identity movements.
