ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at one-day revision workshops conducted with a view to furthering the continuing professional development (CPD) of institutional translators. It is based on the author’s experience of leading such workshops, first in Canada and then abroad, for such institutions as the European Commission and the UN. The chapter begins with a discussion of the revision function and revision training at the Canadian Government’s Translation Bureau, in the context of Canada’s Official Languages Act. The author then considers the functions of workshops (with emphasis on reviser competences), the logistics involved, the topics covered, the types of activity, the pedagogical approach, and the problems that may arise.
