ABSTRACT

In recent years, higher education institutions (HEIs) around the world have been experiencing rapid and significant changes related to the need for increasing the quality of education and decentralization. These changes are caused, inter alia, by the growing expectations of customers or the need for building and maintaining a competitive advantage. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the need for digital transformation and the implementation of solutions increasing virtualization of universities. Innovation at HEI is becoming a global priority. More precisely, the need for implementing digital innovations is postulated, which is defined as the creation of market offerings, business processes or models that result from the use of digital technology. This leads to an increase in digital orientation for new services that provide customers with new value using digital technologies and digitized processes. This chapter refers to innovation, digital innovation and typology of digital innovations. It also discusses the issue of digital orientation taking into account HEI, with particular emphasis on trends in this area.
