ABSTRACT

Given the complexity associated with intercultural mediation, it is expected that certain intercultural skills will promote the effectiveness of mediation processes in these contexts. Cultural intelligence has emerged as a construct that focuses specifically on interactions characterized by cultural diversity, playing an extremely important role in intercultural contexts, as it can ease the difficulties of intercultural disputes. Although studies on cultural intelligence have proliferated in the last decade, there are still a few that reflect their influence on intercultural mediation. This chapter presents a brief reflection on the role and influence of cultural intelligence in mediation processes, reinforcing that a culturally intelligent mediator can better understand the dynamics of a foreign culture, feel more confident, and better manage emotions in a process of intercultural mediation.
