ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we discuss team creativity and innovation, and the role that communication plays. The discussion begins by explaining the creative problem-solving process, discussing each core component. Communication and information sharing are discussed in relation to the creative problem-solving process, suggesting that while effective engagement in the core components of the creative problem-solving process are necessary, both communication and information sharing play an important role. Through effective communication and sharing of information, there is greater opportunity to discuss various viewpoints and generate more creative ideas. Following this discussion, the chapter offers various recommendations to facilitate effectiveness in team creativity. For example, by making team members feel comfortable encouraging a psychologically safe environment, team members will feel able to speak up and discuss their own points of view. Implementing this within teams is a simple way to develop effective communication within teams, further facilitating team creative problem-solving and innovation.
