ABSTRACT
This chapter identifies and elaborates on six characteristics that research has shown to distinguish successful from unsuccessful groups. They are (1) clear, elevating goals, (2) a result-driven structure, (3) competent members, (4) standards of excellence, (5) a collaborative climate, and (6) effective process. The chapter also elaborates on the processes by which these characteristics emerge and develop in successful groups.
