ABSTRACT

Humanity faces challenges related to climate change, technological and scientific negative impacts in the environment, lack of water resources and social inequality, among others. Public and private companies need to be aware of their social and environmental responsibility, in addition to being profitable. Sustainability is related to transdisciplinarity, and the dimensions are economic, social, and environmental. The digital age is changing business behaviors and business models are necessary. Companies are facing new ways to do business because of the adoption of IoT technologies, intensive data exchange and data analytics.

The main objective of this research was to discover the role of human beings as knowledge managers with and for sustainability, in the digital age, trying to answer the following questions: How do knowledge managers develop their activities for sustainability in the digital era? How are human beings changing in the digitalization era? How is it possible to interlink knowledge management, digitalization, and sustainability?

The bibliographic review showed a lack of research information. Knowledge management was identified as a key factor in the sustainability process of companies and the role of knowledge managers was perceived as a crucial element in driving companies’ objectives, including cultural and structural changes.
