ABSTRACT

The chapter draws on the deliberations in the book chapters and synergises the concluding positions of the authors in order to chart the opportunities going forward for African universities in the 21st century. It is thus concluded that the questions of gender, disability and rurality as notions embedded in social justice discourses are contestable and how they are understood, interpreted and implemented for affirmative action remain utopian in the main. However, while some strides are being made to adopt them, in practice African universities still await full fruition.
