ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the transformative power of ancestral connections in Latinx artistic practice. Drawing inspiration from a conversation with renowned playwright Migdalia Cruz, Marissa Chibás reflects on the profound concept of “remembering to remember” as a guiding principle in her own creative journey. Through an insightful interview with Cruz, they discuss the importance of community, intuition, protection, and the grounding influence of ancestral wisdom in artistic practice. The conversation explores the lessons learned from the pandemic and calls for more humane and sustainable artistic practices and for seeking what can enrich the unique creativity of Latinx teatristas.
