ABSTRACT

Yana Wana’s Legend of the Bluebonnet is a new play for young audiences and is written by the authors of this chapter. In the chapter, the playwright/scholars examine the efforts of the play to counter mis-education of Indigenous youth who have been labeled Hispanic throughout the United States, specifically in the state of Texas. Through chronicling and examining one play’s journey alongside previous scholarship, this chapter further seeks to examine the potential for theatre to first reveal and then to counter the effects of colonialism that have failed/mislabeled Indigenous youth.
