ABSTRACT
This chapter argues for inter-cultural collaborations and begins by addressing the inherent diversity already existing under the umbrella terms Latino/Latinx/Latiné. In a culturally hypervigilant post-George Floyd era, the author points out the Latiné arts community’s historic willingness and indeed pride in celebrating the similarities and differences among artists of Latin American heritage. Referencing his own collaborations with Black theatre makers, the author cautions the reader about his perceived trend in the field to silo culturally specific work. Noting the tendency among university theatre students and professional actors alike to reject playing any culturally specific role outside their own experience, this chapter argues that communities of color can create powerful artistic collaborations with respect and integrity.
