ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects the emotional impact on a life whose unconscious and conscious search for identity creates both conflict and joy; how his eventual understanding of privilege and identity bring a sense of peace and a renewed ability to create art fully. The piece is written as an irregular ode, spoken word, a poem, and dialog. It is a bilingual English-Spanish piece. It is laid out quasi-chronologically, reflecting the shifts caused by his search for happiness, success, and authenticity as this border-child built a life in Mexico, the United States of America, and the world. Mexican folkloric dance and music, theatre, mathematics, and community service all play a part in his world.
