Introduction

BIMSTEC represents one of the most diverse regions of the world, be it way of life, religion, language, culture, etc. It provides a unique link between South Asia and Southeast Asia bringing together 1.5 billion people – 22% of the world population, a combined GDP of US $2.7 trillion economy and the member countries have been able to sustain an average 6.5% economic growth. Taking these dynamics into consideration, the volume focuses on new futures for BIMSTEC including connectivity, commerce and security. The Bay of Bengal will certainly play a vital role not only in South Asia and Southeast Asia but also in Asia and the global arena.
