ABSTRACT

‘Teatro Patologico Abroad’ examines the Italian company Teatro Patologico and its signature production of the past decade: an adaptation of Euripides’ Medea. The production features a chorus of neurodivergent actors from the company’s theatre training school. Since 2011, Teatro Patologico has toured Medea internationally, including a notable performance in New York for the United Nations. This chapter draws upon archival research and performance analysis to consider how the company has translated its production and mission while travelling. This chapter argues that Teatro Patologico’s international performances strengthen the company’s work and provide a platform to influence social and cultural policies on a larger scale.
