ABSTRACT

Sandy Sun is a trapeze artist and choreographer. She has worked in well-known international circuses and European cabarets from 1978 to 2005. She was awarded the gold medal at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain and won a prize from the Foundation Marcel Bleustein-Blancet. During her high-level career, she had a major accident that strongly affected the creation of her subsequent performances. In this interview, which is based on her talk at the international conference “Semiotics of the Circus” in April 2015 at the University of Münster, Germany, Sun reflects on the constitution of meaning in circus performance through the lens of her experiences as a trapeze artist.
