ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the idea of the intersectional matrix to capture the impact, interplay and complexity involved in containing and working analytically with the multiplicity of stigmatised and marginalised identities and the intensity of associated trauma, including that which becomes criminogenic. The concept of the intersectional matrix places focus on difference and the interaction within the matrix of both complimentary and conflicting identities. The concept of the intersectional matrix draws attention to the empirical knowledge of an otherwise voiceless population and the intention of the group process to mobilise its members’ agency to establish a shared narrative which is rooted in lived experience and co-creates a robust dynamic matrix. This chapter also offers insight into the idea of intersectional preparation of group co-conductors.
