ABSTRACT

Using clinical material and reference to film, this chapter addresses sexuality and (trans)gender in relation to group analysis and their relationship to other aspects of social differences, such as the body, race, class, and religion. In the context where sexual or gender minorities are told they are not wanted, or they are sick, and accordant pathology is akin to a ’death by a thousand cuts’, this chapter problematises the ideas of the location of the disturbance and asserts a move to the idea of locations of difference. This chapter uses the concept of ’group polyphony’ to disrupt positions of power and privilege by recognising the equality of voices within the group.
