ABSTRACT

This chapter developed from an email server exchange between two experienced group analysts who attended a virtual online group commemorating the September 2021 special issue of the journal Group Analysis, which was on racism. It reproduces the discussion in a lightly edited and referenced form. Bacha cautions against throwing the baby out with the bathwater and dismissing group-analytic ideas or potentials for dialogue. Blackwell considers that group-analytic training should come with a health warning for Black students and describes engrained issues of power, privilege and position that he is sceptical can be resolved by current structures.
