ABSTRACT

Professional learning sessions should always model best practices in teaching and differentiation. Educators need to be open to changes and growth, which requires a growth mindset. When people apply grow mindset thinking, they believe that with perseverance, resiliency, some mistakes along the way, and a cache of strategies, they can understand and accomplish just about anything. With a growth mindset, participants in professional learning sessions consider the possibilities, embrace growth, and welcome any perceived challenges. Before beginning any professional learning, establish norms or ground rules for the sessions. If time permits or if norms have not typically been used before, the participants should have input when establishing these norms. If some members of the staff already have a healthy knowledge of mindsets, then differentiate the learning, ask them to participate in planning the sessions, or have them develop a tool or platform that will help the school or district move forward with growth mindset thinking.
