ABSTRACT

Memorizing formulae and information will not be sufficient to achieve success as a financial broker; students will need to have a deeper understanding of how the variables in the formulae impact each other and then use this knowledge to understand the economic/financial principles that will need to be at the center of their decisions. This chapter allows students to learn the risks and rewards of the following investments: high-risk and low-risk stocks; stock calls; corporate, government, and junk bonds; and interest-bearing savings accounts. Students work with their own family members to establish and maintain a simulated investment portfolio. Once students have learned about the different types of investments, they act as brokers and hold meetings with their families.
