ABSTRACT

An itinerant is a person who travels from place to place, especially for duty or business. An itinerant teacher is a teacher who travels from school to school in order to provide services and case management to students who often have low-incidence disabilities. Visual impairment occurs in 12.2 out of every 1,000 children under the age of 18 including students with severe disabilities. Itinerant teachers may suggest changes to be made by a classroom teacher. General education teachers often do not feel prepared to have a student with a hearing or visual impairment in their classroom. Students with hearing impairment are often seen by a variety of service providers including, but not limited to, itinerant teachers of the deaf, itinerant teachers of students with visual impairments, educational audiologists, interpreters, instructional assistants, speech/language pathologists, special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and/or social workers.
