ABSTRACT

The main role of the audiologist, regardless of setting, is to identify hearing loss, prevent further hearing loss, and reduce the severity of communication disorders that may result from untreated hearing loss. The audiologist plays a crucial role in the early identification of hearing loss. The educational audiologist provides a very important role for the child with hearing loss. The goal of the in-service is to orient and remind staff of the basics of hearing loss and how that can affect the child in the classroom. The audiologist should develop a good line of communication with the parents of the child with hearing loss. Hearing loss is plotted on a graph called an audiogram. Hearing aids are electronic devices that work by collecting acoustic sound via a microphone, converting that sound into an electronic signal for processing, and then reconverting it into an acoustic signal, which is then transmitted to the person via the receiver.
