ABSTRACT

A resident assistant can help a student who has a disability in a variety of ways. A resident assistant's main role is to provide a safe and supportive environment for all residents. Resident assistants have a wide variety of knowledge about campus resources and they are thoroughly trained in understanding different situations in which students need to be referred to other campus resources. The resident assistant has many responsibilities for each resident in the floor community. It is important for the resident assistant to facilitate the personal development of residents in a variety of ways, including meeting their social, physical, and emotional needs and by being sensitive to their individual concerns. A variety of services can be provided for a student through the Office of Disability Concerns. The resident assistant can first ask the student if she is asking for help from the Office of Disability Concerns.
