ABSTRACT

Collaboration is a process, and it is important for all individuals who are involved with a student with a disability to understand what each individual brings to the conversation. Collaboration needs to be a back-and-forth process with the many individuals involved working together to meet the needs of the students they serve. Knowledge of the situation, the needs of the student, and the part each professional plays is key to the development of a successful inclusion plan. In order for professionals to work together they must understand what roles each performs and how as a team they can help students with disabilities. For students with disabilities to have successful experiences in the inclusive classroom, professionals must work together, value what each person does, share responsibilities, and effectively communicate and collaborate. Professionals should work together to provide insight, suggestions, and services that will directly benefit students, helping them be successful and strive toward their fullest potential.
