ABSTRACT

Teachers view creativity more favorably than conventional wisdom and past research suggest, and have likely evolved over time (in line with societal values and priorities). Teachers can shape the classroom environment into one that supports and encourages creativity. A “creativity gap” persists between the values and priorities of educational practice and the present-day workforce. Prioritizing creativity in teacher preparation programs and professional development remains a promising avenue for change. Adopting language that prioritizes creativity in educational policy and standards is necessary to align with the values and priorities of today’s society.
