ABSTRACT

There are a number of thoughtful, well-developed theories of creativity. These theories can be categorized in several ways, and we use the following four categories in this chapter: Who is creative – theories that clarify what it takes to be creative as well as the developmental trajectory of creativity; how we’re creative – theories that describe the factors and processes that lead to creative outcomes; why we’re creative – theories that explain reasons why people engage in creative thinking and action; and what is creative – theories that describe different types of creativity and what counts as creative in and across different domains.
