ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the educators everywhere gain greater insight into the daily lived experiences of our most vulnerable student populations, the complexities of the multiple identities they hold, and how to reach them in ways that will support their becoming the ingenious, productive, compassionate individuals they were born to be. It examines the culturally responsive teaching (CRT) to place students at the center of the teaching and learning process. The book explores the bold step to expand the use of CRT to include meeting the needs of other marginalized and often overlooked students—those who are twice-exceptional, those from rural communities, and those with varied gender and sexual identities, more commonly known as LGBTQ+ students. It focuses on attention on enabling readers to become more culturally responsive as leaders in schools and in their classrooms.
