Self-inflicted pressure involving the need to compete and the need to carry heavy responsibilities is an issue that may exact an emotional toll on gifted males. Self-inflicted pressure involving the need to compete and the need to carry heavy responsibilities is an issue that may exact an emotional toll on gifted males. Social context may play an important role in identity development, as gifted males work to shape their emerging identity while also juggling conflicting social demands. As gifted males negotiate their individual identities, they may also dedicate significant efforts at image management. In creating a culturally responsive environment to support the emotional well-being of gifted males, educators and counselors need a repertoire of appropriate strategies. Photography offers gifted young men great opportunities to engage in hands-on learning, and with cell phones readily available, the possibilities are endless.
