ABSTRACT

A spectrum of racist practices exists, and when the practices are muddled with macroaggressions, microaggressions, prejudice, and discrimination, those who are on the opposing end are often met with disregard, disdain, and hate. On the flip side, others are striving to place antiracism practices, or behaviors and beliefs that are neutral, meaning there is "nothing behaviorally wrong or right—inferior or superior with any racial groups", at the forefront. An antiracist is able to assign individual behaviors and belief systems to an individual, and not their race as a whole. An effective antiracist approach with this teacher would have been a combination of what was provided to the first- and third-grade teachers—that is, for an appropriate figure of authority to have provided him with the referral criteria, making sure that he understood each step and the role that he served in the process, and to have answered any questions that he may have had.
