ABSTRACT

Creative products are essential to curricula for the gifted. They allow students to express themselves and convey their ideas and knowledge in unique and complex ways. Product development also serves to motivate students, and it provides practical contexts in which they can develop knowledge, skills, and essential understandings within and across disciplines. This chapter provides teachers with the information necessary to assist students through the various stages of successful product development in the classroom. The act of product development is multifaceted in scope and sequence, and through the production process, gifted students can develop, enhance, and evaluate a wide spectrum of content and process skills, thus adding to the advancement of self-esteem, self-analysis, and self-actualization. During the communication stage, students share their ideas and products with a selected audience. Sharing the final product with an audience gives added purpose to the product.
