ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the Methods and Materials for Teaching the Gifted was published nearly 20 years ago in 2001. Intended to guide practitioners with strategies and resources for working with gifted and talented learners, this volume has remained a mainstay over the past four editions for both preservice and inservice educators. It also discusses the Contemporary Gifted Education:Recognizing and Focusing on a Diverse Range of Needs addresses the identification of gifted learners and subpopulations of gifted learners, as well as strategies to support their academic and psychosocial needs. The book argues that Gifted Programming Standards and Gifted Education provides guidance to generally agreed upon criterion and benchmarks of gifted programming in K-12 education. It provides the Gifted Students in the Classroom: Adjusting Curriculum and Pedagogy provides specific classroom interventions for gifted learners.
