ABSTRACT

The Gifted Programming Standards are divided into six categories: Each category is further delineated by statements of student outcomes that are considered to be appropriate consequences for gifted students as a result of the implementation of the many facets of quality programming for gifted learners. As with any set of standards in education, conscientious application of the Gifted Programming Standards is dependent on careful consideration of the school context; the priorities and values that prevail in a state, school district, or individual school building; and the financial exigencies that govern the decision making. Effective use of the guidelines provided by the Gifted Programming Standards in program planning begins with identifying the critical components associated with successful services for gifted children. To proceed with integrating the Gifted Programming Standards into the process of program planning first requires recognition that the effective implementation of the components listed previously will be specifically guided by the standards.
