ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the cyclical phases that might be used in the independent research study. The teacher will, therefore, want to use the independent research process as a framework based on the students' background, developmental level, and experiences. On the other hand, the teacher might he introducing the independent research process more formally to one or more students to get them interested in the research process. Giving students these evaluation tools helps them create more complex questions that, in turn, influence the overall quality of the independent research study. Assessments in independent research studies should focus on what the student has learned and they might do to improve the research project. At the secondary level gifted students need comprehensive programs to explore their interests, refine their talents, and investigate research problems. Students also benefited in the social and emotional areas.
