ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the gifted coordinator can employ for collaborating with school administrators to create and maintain effective gifted services within a single school or throughout a school district. Tire following descriptions depict the four most common categories and roles of gifted coordinators. Monitoring and reporting these data assist gifted coordinators in strengthening gifted services and provide real-time data to use when advocating for equitable sendees with district administration. Gifted coordinators can encourage and accomplish this integration by having a voice in district-level meetings and by demonstrating the benefits of collaboration between district departments. The role of the gifted coordinator takes on many different forms. The gifted coordinator is regularly directed to support existing gifted services in a school or district, which can limit possibilities of improving services when the coordinator is new to the position and has little experience in gifted programming.
