ABSTRACT

In 1998, the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) published the initial version of the Pre-K–Grade 12 Gifted Programming Standards which are followed by two subsequent editions in 2010 and 2019 respectively. The intent of the NAGC standards (1998, 2010, 2019) is to present desired student outcomes that align with high quality services to perspective stakeholders. Because research, theoretical constructs, and best practice frameworks substantiate the NAGC standards, they serve to form the foundation of effective gifted education programming at local and state levels. The NAGC standards translate into effective policies, procedures, and systematic programming to meet the needs of Pre-K–Grade 12 gifted students. The utility of the NAGC standards in serving gifted learners varies, encompassing a wide range of purposes. Thus, the purpose of this chapter is to discuss the utility of NAGC standards implementation at the state level, including pre-collegiate schools, universities, and state departments of education.
