ABSTRACT
Schools have settled on certain methods, organizational strategies, and rules. School itself blunts the natural creativity of children. Settled and certain is an excellent descriptor of the majority of the curriculum in school. In addition, tests give students the sense that questions have two kinds of answers—the right one and all of the others. Books about creativity that spoke of “incubation” as part of the creative process allowed the magic to stay under the radar. Although writing is usually a fairly solitary activity, students can be gathered sometimes into “idea exploring groups” so that both introverts and extroverts have an opportunity to work in ways that are comfortable for them. There are a great many creative endeavors and domains besides writing.
