ABSTRACT

The Multiple Menu Model attempts to address the issues by providing a management plan that allows curriculum developers to select content and strategies from a number of options or “menus” that draw upon theories of knowledge, instruction, and curricular design. In the Multiple Menu Model, the theory of knowledge represented by James’s three levels is used in harmony with Alfred North Whitehead’s concepts of romance, technical proficiency, and generalization. The Multiple Menu Model provides curriculum developers with a set of practical planning guides or menus to help them in the process of combining authentic knowledge with instructional technique. In using the Artistic Modification Menu, teachers make their own creative contributions to developed materials. Teachers can begin generating topics for artistic modification by working with others in a small-group brainstorming situation. The Instructional Products Menu deals with the outcomes of learning experiences that the teacher presents.
