ABSTRACT

Of all of the tools and strategies teachers use to differentiate, none is more legendary than Bloom’s taxonomy. A genuine “Bloomarian” seeks to develop expertise by reflecting on his or her own teaching practices in order to identify where improvement is needed. Professional learning communities among the staff are vital, but a truly brave teacher will be open to involving students in his or her learning opportunities as well. There are many wonderful professionally created materials available to make differentiating easier, but if money is an issue, consider using the free resources right at our fingertips. Basal reading programs and other series have long been criticized for being low level and one-size-fits-all. Curriculum developers have made great strides in recent years in addressing all levels of learners.
