ABSTRACT

One of the most discussed topics in the literature of creativity is the circumstances that favor its development and expression in different contexts. Moreover, in recent theoretical contributions, a combination of cognitive, conative, and environmental attributes have been identified as necessary for creativity expression. The factors that hinder individuals in taking advantage of their potential to create is a topic that has attracted the attention of several scholars devoted to the study of creativity. A content analysis of the responses indicated different categories of obstacles, including emotional, sociocultural, motivational/personality, and intellectual. Several studies were conducted with the Obstacles to Personal Creativity Inventory. There is a growing recognition of the importance of creativity for the individual, organizations, and society. In spite of the importance of creativity, there is a scarcity of empirical studies about possible factors that inhibit or block its expression at the personal level.
