ABSTRACT

The exemplar syllabi in this chapter include a graduate survey course in gifted education, an undergraduate course on differentiated instruction, and an online course on the topic of creative behavior. In the course syllabus for Introduction to Gifted Education, one key assessment, the case analysis, Helping Juan, is referenced. The advantage of the controlled, presented case is that the course developer can include salient details that build on the course objectives driven by the standards and can assure that candidates are exposed to diversity in their initial courses in gifted education. In addition to courses in gifted education taught at the graduate level, programs may also develop programs and courses in gifted education at the undergraduate level. The quality of the individual courses and of the preparation program in gifted education is more likely to be maintained when highly qualified university faculty use the standards to develop them.
