ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides important examples of how these approaches address crime, confirm or enhance research methods, and develop prevention techniques. It utilizes field interviews and observation of probation and parole officers who use the Triple-S: Social Supports in Supervision method to engage clients. The book expands on previous studies of guardianship and routine activities in neighborhoods. It also utilizes a novel approach of analyzing Yelp reviews of casinos and comparing those reviews to area crime rates. The findings demonstrate that publicly available data can be used to investigate the criminogenic capacity of risky facilities. The book shows a research team into parks, transportation facilities, and shopping areas in Stockholm, Sweeden, to study a previously established research process validity, reliability, and generalizability.
