ABSTRACT
In this essay, we focus on the objects on our desks and in our offices as autobiographical acts that contribute to our understanding of how certain bodies become understood as the rightful occupants of certain spaces within the academy. Our analysis of the roles played by these objects in narrating our career lives contributes to restoring stories buried by the self-editing required of academic women trying to meet the expectations of their institutions and disciplines.
