ABSTRACT

“Affirmative action” represents a set of public policies intended to acknowledge and address demographic (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, class, etc.) diversity and inequalities in education, employment, and public contracting participation and inclusion. Specific to organizational practices in postsecondary admissions and enrollment, these policies exist across the globe in different forms. Differences in policy and practice, and localized debates over them, reflect unique national contexts of racial meanings and policy discourses of race and racism.
